What does Web 2.0 means to me? To start until tonight every time I went online used my yahoo mail or went to Facebook to chat with friends and yes played on Farmville, plus I post pictures so my kids grandparents and their mom can see, I never knew I was computing in the clouds or considered using online as a storage place for my pics. Must say am happy that I have pictures online, a few weeks ago my laptop crashed and I lost everything on it, but lucky for me I was able to go to Facebook and retrieve my pictures from there plus some that I have that was sent to my email on yahoo.
Well to be honest my experience with the web 5 years ago was rather new to me as well as a painful time you see my ex wife met guys online and at that time venture more to soon leave me because of the convenience of getting to know someone before meeting, then eventually feeling comfortable enough to meet them. My feeling is web 2.0 can be an amazing thing, but at the same time be problem some.
The future with web 2.0, I see myself teaching with smart board or maybe even teaching a class room via computer from my home. I also see a new twist with online college course that we all may meet online through group video and chat and be taught on more of a personal way but not in a class room.

ReplyDeleteI too can totally relate to the internet causing individual or family problems. I also had an ex used the internet as a tool to live what I refer to as a secret life. The internet gave him the ability to live out a fantasy life, that I never knew existed. I did become a little computer saavy and did some of my own investigating and sure enough my instincts were right.
On a more positive note, I also agree that the internet will enhance a teachers ability to emphasize on class lessons. The high school where I sub uses the Smartboard, and this is such an amazing tool. The ability to have the internet in the classroom really allows a class to explore so much more!
I agree with you, the internet can be a wonderful thing in so many ways but a treat at the same time, it's amazing how we don't have to leave the comfort of our homes in order to bring new people into our lives, that also goes for our children, who are rapidly catching up with this trend without even knowing the dangers of it, like predators and scammers.

ReplyDeleteYou said in the future you saw yourself teaching with smart board. Does that mean your major is education? It would be wonderful to be a teacher of an online class and meet deadlines rather than be in class all the time.
I haven't posted pictures of my daughter on facebook, but I have emailed them. Reading about your computer crashed reminds me that I need a back up for the hundreds of pictures on my computer! I couldn't imagine losing them all!! Thankfully you had some on facebook though! :)

As an online teacher I have to say be aware that it actually takes more time to teach online than in person. That may change with some of the technology evolving, but the time I put into my face to face courses and the ones online, the online ones are hands down more time-consuming. On the good note though I can be working at midnight if I want, so I get to teach when the spirit moveth. I also have to be pretty organized and not procrastinate too much or I won't be a good online teacher as I wouldn't show up enough in class...you may have had a few of those teachers already, not good.
